This course is aligned to the specific requirements of Queensland Rail’s Network Rules and Procedures MD-12-189. It is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of a Lookout within the Queensland Rail network. Lookouts play a vital role in protecting track workers by identifying approaching rail traffic and providing timely, clear warnings in accordance with safety protocols. The course ensures learners understand their responsibilities and are competent in applying safe practices while operating in the rail corridor environment.

Perform lookout duties

In alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:

  • A valid Category 3 or 1 Rail Medical assessment
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor

This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments and practical observations in a simulated environment to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.

  • Knowledge assessments: Written tests to evaluate participants' understanding of the course material.
  • Practical observation assessments: Hands-on activities where participants demonstrate their skills in a controlled environment.
