This course provides essential safety training for workers who will be working in or near Queensland Rail's electrified rail environment. It covers safe practices for operating around the electric traction system and working within electrified territories to prevent injuries and incidents.

The course is designed for contractors and authorised personnel, equipping them with a foundational understanding of the traction system, electrical risks, and minimum safe working procedures for working in electrified areas within Queensland Rail. It also provides guidelines on effectively reporting incidents and emergencies.

Successful completion of this training is mandatory to perform work safely on or near high-voltage electrical apparatus across Queensland Rail’s electrified rail network (unless the work is performed under direct supervision). This course does not grant access to railway corridors or facilities.

Upon successful completion of all required assessments, students will be issued a:

Entry Requirements Section

In alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations outlined by Queensland Rail, TIC Rail requires the following for course admission:

1. General and Medical Requirements
  • A valid Category 3 Rail Medical assessment including Drug and Alcohol, confirming fitness for work in a rail environment.
  • A Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card 
  • QR3.2 Safely Access the Rail Corridor Certification 
  • QR3.15 Working in the Electrified Territory 
2. Statement of Attainment
Applicants must provide evidence of the following nationally recognised units of competency (or their superseded and equivalent versions):
  • TLIF0020 – Safely Access the Rail Corridor

  • Safety Compliance: Meets the safety and regulatory requirements for working in electrified rail environments, ensuring full compliance with Queensland Rail’s safety standards.
  • Career Continuity: Maintains up-to-date certification, ensuring participants can continue to work safely and legally within the rail sector.
  • Recognition: Participants receive a Queensland Rail Certificate of Achievement, recognised across the industry for its credibility and value.

This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments and practical observations in a simulated environment to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.
