Learn to Operator a Road-Rail Vehicle
This course is designed for individuals who need to safely access the rail track to operate a road-rail vehicle within a defined worksite during rail maintenance or construction activities.
Participants will learn how to conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks, on-track and off-track vehicles safely, operate on-track equipment, and complete all required documentation. The course covers the operation of all types of road-rail on-track vehicles in accordance with network safety requirements.

There are no formal entry requirements, however in alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:
- A valid Category 1 Rail Medical assessment
- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
- TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
To ensure you are fully prepared for the practical activities, please also ensure the following are available on the day of training:
- Access to a suitable Road-Rail Vehicle (RRV) for the duration of the course
- Access to a rail track location where you can operate the RRV.
These practical activities must be demonstrated a minimum of three (3) times during the course.
If you are unable to complete all required demonstrations during the training session, you will be provided with a logbook to record and verify the completion of the remaining attempts in the workplace.
This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments, an in-field demonstrations, and practical observations to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.
