The Protection Officer Level 2 (ARTC NSW) course is designed for individuals aiming to advance their careers in rail safety, focusing on safeguarding worksites within the ARTC NSW network. This course equips participants with the necessary skills to implement and manage Track Occupancy Authorities (TOAs), pilot rail traffic, and coordinate protection across multiple worksites.

In alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:

  • A valid Category 1 Rail Medical assessment
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • TLIF0023 Conduct track protection assessment
  • TLIF0027 Perform lookout duties
  • TLIF2097 Use audible track warning devices
  • TLIL3082 Implement absolute signal blocking
  • TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules
  • TLIW2037 Clip and secure points
  • ARTC NSW Protection Officer Level 1

Completing the ARTC NSW Protection Officer Level 2 course can support further development and career progression within the rail industry.

  • Pathway to TLI32721 Certificate III in Track Protection
  • Opportunity to progress to ARTC NSW Protection Officer Level 3

This course is delivered through two days of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments, an in-field logbook, and practical observations to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.

  • Knowledge assessments: Written tests to evaluate participants' understanding of the course material.
  • In-field logbook: Participants complete tasks under the supervision of a qualified mentor, documenting their experiences and competencies in a logbook.
  • Practical observation assessments: Hands-on activities where participants demonstrate their skills in a controlled environment.
