The QR 3.4 Lookout Working course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to carry out Lookout duties safely and effectively on the Queensland Rail network. This nationally recognised course is a critical requirement for rail workers tasked with warning colleagues of approaching rail traffic, ensuring worksite safety within the rail corridor.

Lookout Workers serve as a vital safety control, especially during track maintenance or low-level protection scenarios where early detection of oncoming trains is essential.

Perform lookout duties

In alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:

  • A valid Category 3 or 1 Rail Medical assessment
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor

This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments and practical observations in a simulated environment to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.

  • Knowledge assessments: Written tests to evaluate participants' understanding of the course material.
  • Practical observation assessments: Hands-on activities where participants demonstrate their skills in a controlled environment.
