This course equips learners with essential knowledge of Queensland Rail’s electric traction system and the skills to work safely in electrified territory. It focuses on preventing injuries and avoiding incidents by providing a clear understanding of:

  • The traction system and its operation
  • Electrical risks in the rail environment
  • Minimum safe working requirements for tasks in electrified territory
  • Effective procedures for reporting incidents and emergencies

Designed for contractors and authorised personnel, the training delivers the foundational safety principles needed when working near high-voltage electrical apparatus.

Working in the electrified territory (WET)

There are no formal entry requirements, however in alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:

  • A valid Category 3 or 1 Rail Medical assessment
  • A Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • QR3.2 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Completing this course opens opportunities to work safely in Queensland Rail’s electrified territory, supporting roles such as:

  • Rail infrastructure maintenance worker
  • Electrical safety observer
  • Construction or maintenance contractor in the rail

This course is delivered through one day of classroom-based learning and includes knowledge assessments and practical observations in a simulated environment to evaluate both theoretical understanding and hands-on competence.

  • Practical observation assessments: Hands-on activities where participants demonstrate their skills in a controlled environment.
